Doing Your Part

Global warming is something that affects every person on the planet. No matter who you are, where you are, what you do, there is always something you can do to help stop climate change. It may seem like one person doing their part would be insignificant, but if many of us work together in one shared goal, we may be able to put an end to climate change.

There are small things we can do to impact climate change, such as changing habits that may contribute to harmful pollution or the heat in the atmosphere. Something many people have started to do to help is decrease their usage of cars. Many people walk, run, bike, or use public transportation to get to their destination rather than using their own personal vehicles. This can reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere, and when/if a large number of people make this change, carbon emissions can be significantly reduced. Many people also use reusable water bottles and containers to decrease the amount of plastic that is thrown into landfills and the ocean. Plastic can take from 20 years to 1000 years to decompose depending on the size and thickness of the item, and it can hurt wildlife as well. Around 100 million sea creatures die from plastic products every year. By using reusable products and containers, we are continually reducing the amount of plastic in our natural world that can take up to a millennium to decompose.

These are some of the most common ways people do their part in putting a stop to climate change, however there are other options that stem from these ideas. Some people are starting to use electric cars rather than gas-powered cars to significantly cut their contribution to carbon emissions caused by transportation. People have also started using metal and paper straws rather than plastic ones, so they can either be reusable or be broken down quickly. There are so many ways to contribute to the stop of global warming, and even the smallest of changes in our daily lives can make a drastic difference for our future.
